Brand Photographer in Brighton

brand photography for Green Mop at work in Brighton

I’m a brand photographer working with small business owners, freelancers and independent professionals across Brighton who need images that represent how they work, not generic headshots or staged marketing shots.

For larger organisations or more structured commercial work, view my commercial photography page.

When a small business invests in photography, it tends to matter more. There’s no marketing department to absorb the cost, no quarterly budget to write it off against. It’s a real decision, and the images need to work. That’s something I’m conscious of on every brand shoot I do.

Most of my clients are the face of their own business: designers, consultants and people running things on their own who need a set of images that can run across a website, LinkedIn and ongoing content without looking dated within months. I photograph people in a way that makes sense for their business.

A shoot usually comes about at a turning point. New website, rebrand, growing team, a move to a bigger space. Or simply the point where the photos you’ve been using no longer reflect where the business is now. Either way, the aim is the same: a set of images that look professional, feel natural, and give you enough to use across your marketing without running out quickly.

What a Brand Shoot Covers

Most shoots include:

Portraits – images of you, and your team if relevant, for the website, LinkedIn and social. The aim is recognition and clarity, not a generic headshot that could belong to anyone.

Working shots – the business in context. Your workspace, client interactions, you doing what you actually do. These are the images that give a website personality instead of just filling space. This is where the storytelling, documentary side of what I do comes in, capturing things as they happen rather than recreating them for the camera.

Brighton Shoot Locations & Co-working Spaces – we work this out as part of the brief. Sometimes that’s your own workspace, sometimes somewhere that better suits how the business needs to be seen. A lot of Brighton-based small businesses use co-working spaces, there’s no shortage of them, and most have great-looking, characterful interiors that work well in photos. Places like Projects and Platf9rm are good examples. If you’re a member, it’s worth checking with them in advance about shooting on site.

Before the Shoot

This is the bit that shapes how the day goes, and it’s where a lot of the work happens, even though nothing’s been photographed yet.

We go through a proper brief before anything is booked: what the images need to do, how they’ll be used, what needs to be included, what should be avoided. That usually covers wide shots for the website header, variety for social, and a smaller set of clean images for press or announcements. A half day is usually enough, because we’re not guessing on the day.

I’ll have some questions at this stage: what the website needs to communicate, which parts of the business matter most, and what you’ve tried to show before but never had the right images for. With Green Mop, that meant working closely with their web designer beforehand and shooting specific images shaped around the layout of their new site, not just a general set, but frames built to fit where they’d go.

How I work

I work on location in real working environments, not studios. The images are built around what’s already there, rather than setting something up for the sake of it.

My background is press photography, so I’m used to working quickly without getting in the way of what’s already happening. Most people aren’t entirely relaxed in front of a camera, for all sorts of reasons, and I build that into how I shoot. Sometimes it’s as simple as showing someone the back of the camera partway through, so they can see how the images look rather than imagining the worst. It usually does the trick.

The result for Green Mop was a set of images that reflected how they work day to day. After the shoot, Racheal Hughes said the whole team were excited and proud to see themselves on the website:

“They are really fun and look great. It will bring the website to life and give it our own personality.”

— Racheal Hughes, Green Mop

After the Shoot

Once the shoot’s done, I edit and deliver a full set of images. You’ll get a link to a gallery where you can view and download the full set in high resolution, ready to use straight away across the website, social or print.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many images will I receive? – A half day shoot typically produces a full set suitable for the website, social media and ongoing marketing. We agree what you need before the shoot.

Can we use multiple locations? – Yes, and in most cases it improves the final set by giving more variety and context.

What should we bring? – A couple of outfit options and anything relevant to your work. We go through this beforehand so it’s straightforward on the day.

How long does it take to get the images back? – Usually within 5 working days. If you’re working to a launch date or need things turned around faster, let me know when we’re booking in and I’ll see what’s possible.

Do you work with small teams? – Yes. Brand photography works just as well for a small business with a team as it does for someone working on their own.
